Women's State of Origin 2026: New South Wales complete clean sweep over Queensland with historic win

New South Wales completed the first 3-0 clean sweep in the Women's State of Origin after they beat Queensland in the third game.

NSW already won the annual rugby league fixture between the two Australian states but won Thursday's tight final game 12-4.

The Women's Origin became a three-game series in 2024 but both states have won 2-1, so this marked the first whitewash since the format change.

NSW captain Isabelle Kelly finally scored the first try of the match but Jasmine Peters levelled things up to make it 4-4 at half-time.

In the second half, confusion between the Queensland players meant they gave away a penalty and Jesse Southwell converted before a try from Jayme Fressard was converted and effectively put the game to bed.

NSW second rower Yasmin Meakes won the Katrina Fanning Medal as 2026 Player of the Series while Kelly was named player of the match.

"Yas was outstanding in every game, just such a competitor," said NSW head coach John Strange.

"I've coached her at club a few years ago and she's a really competitive human being. I think if you want to be successful, for me as a coach, you recruit players that have a natural competitive nature who will do anything to win and then you're a very good chance of being successful. She's certainly got that."
